3. SAFE AND UNSAFE AREAS — WHAT TO NOTE & WHY

3. SAFE AND UNSAFE AREAS — WHAT TO NOTE & WHY

What to look for

Safe zones:
  • Wide landing areas
  • Flatter sections of green
  • Gentle rough
  • Large, open quadrants
Unsafe zones:
  • Narrow sections
  • Short-sided areas
  • Hazard-protected edges
  • Steep slopes leading away from green
  • Tight pin positions close to danger

Why it matters

  • Misses will happen — knowing safe/unsafe zones tells you where they should go.
  • Safe zones give you more margin for error.
  • Unsafe zones dramatically increase wasted strokes.
  • This directly influences where your center aim point must go.
