3. SAFE AND UNSAFE AREAS — WHAT TO NOTE & WHY
What to look for
Safe zones:
- Wide landing areas
- Flatter sections of green
- Gentle rough
- Large, open quadrants
Unsafe zones:
- Narrow sections
- Short-sided areas
- Hazard-protected edges
- Steep slopes leading away from green
- Tight pin positions close to danger
Why it matters
- Misses will happen — knowing safe/unsafe zones tells you where they should go.
- Safe zones give you more margin for error.
- Unsafe zones dramatically increase wasted strokes.
- This directly influences where your center aim point must go.
