WHAT TO LOOK FOR (AND WHY IT MATTERS)

Before an approach shot, a player must map the entire green environment.
Here’s exactly what to check — and why each item influences the shot.

FINAL QUICK CHECKLIST

1.Pin location

Determines safe space and depth available.

2. Hazards (type + exact position)

Defines which misses are costly and must be avoided.

3. Safe vs. unsafe zones

Shows where you can miss without losing strokes.

4. Elevation (altitude + green height)

Changes how far the ball actually flies and how the approach plays in real distance.

5. Wind (direction + strength)

Affects both distance and lateral movement throughout the ball's full flight.
